John meets his students for personalized instruction anywhere along the beaches of Brevard County, Florida. John has a number of favorite locations from Cape Canaveral and Cocoa Beach to the north, throughout Patrick, and down to Satellite Beach, Pelican Beach, Indian Harbour Beach and Indialantic Beach to the south.

Lessons are $50 per hour per student. In order to provide the best possible one-on-one teaching experience, John coaches only one student at a time.

Water Safety

John’s first focus is always the safety of his students. In addition to surf skills, John teaches water safety and situational awareness. John maintains an active adult and child CPR certification.

What to Bring to your Lesson

Please print, fill out, and bring in the Waiver Form to your first lesson.

Bring your swimsuit, a towel and sunscreen. A polyester shirt can help prevent chafing against the sticky grip of the board. If you don’t already have a surf board, John can provide a custom fit board for your lessons based on your weight and height.

Student Types

John offers lessons for new surfers at beaches with no rocks and soft, easy-to-learn waves.

Novice students have never been on a surfboard before or just been on one a few times. John helps novice students get out into the lineup and pushes into wave so they can focus on getting up on the board.

Beginner students can paddle out and catch some waves by themselves. John helps beginner students master these skills.

Intermediate students can paddle out and catch waves and ride the waves by themselves. John helps intermediate students to improve their maneuvers and turns, and progress in their surfing.

John is the best surf coach I’ve ever had. He makes sure to prioritize having fun while also pushing you to be the best surfer you can be. With his years of surf coaching and competitive experience he is easily able to critique technique as well as explain wave selection.

Through his coaching I grew not only as a surfer but as a person. He imparted important life qualities that I will carry with me not just in the water but throughout the rest of my life.
